Your Tap Inspect saved comments are your personal knowledge base of home inspecting. They are the key to speed and efficiency while recording your inspection observations in Tap Inspect.
We designed Tap Inspect saved comments with one idea in mind. To make it incredibly simple to reuse comments when recording the same observations repeatedly.
When recording inspection observations, we usually run into three types of things we need to record.
- The same things that we see over and over when inspecting.
- Something we may only see once or twice a year but often enough that it’s not unusual.
- We may see strange or unique things once or twice in our careers.
Your saved comments are accessible from any template or report in your account. You can also see all your saved comments in one place from your saved comments web editor.
Browsing Your Saved Comments
Browsing your saved comments is the quickest and easiest way to record the same things we repeatedly see when inspecting.
Each time you use one of your saved comments in a report, it is tagged with the section or item where it was used. This makes it simple to browse all the comments you have used in that exact location of your report checklist later on.
When browsing your saved comments, the list of comments is ordered by how many times you have used that comment in that location of your report checklist. Your most commonly used comments are more important to you so they are listed first.
Using your saved comments improves the list in each location when you are browsing to find a particular saved comment.
Searching Your Saved Comments
Searching your saved comments is a great way to find that comment you only use once or twice a year. These are for the things we may only see once or twice a year but often enough that it’s not unusual.
You can search all of your saved comments from any location in your report checklist. You also can search for any part of a comment. Even partial words if you can’t remember exactly what is in the comment.
The search results include snippets of the comment with your search parameters highlighted. Tap on any comment snippet to view the whole comment. Tap the comment again to add it to the comment editor.
Remember that you do not need an exact match when searching for a comment. You can always edit the text in the comment editor to fit a particular property. The original saved comment will stay the same.
Avoid the Biggest Mistakes
As a best practice, we have found that having 350 to 600 saved comments is optimal.
More than 600 +/- saved comments make it harder to find that one comment you need on the report you are working on. You end up taking more time to find a comment than it takes to manually add it. Not very quick. Less than 350 +/- usually means you will be manually adding the majority of comments to your reports. This is not very efficient.
This number of comments will not cover everything you could run into. Their purpose is to make it easy to record the observations we see over and over or a few times a year.
Managing Saved Comments is Continuous
Building your saved comments is a continuous process as you gain experience and develop your voice as a home inspector. The types of homes we inspect and the materials and systems are constantly changing. Your personal knowledge base of home inspecting will also change.
Tap Inspect helps manage your saved comments by adding, updating, and deleting saved comments from the mobile app or from your saved comments web editor.
Dive Deeper into Saved Comments
