What is a Team Style?
Whether you’re growing your solo business into a team or already have a team of inspectors, understanding your team's personality helps guide you toward the best setup for your work style.
Every team is unique, but we commonly see a few styles:
- Co-Ops
- Top Downers
- Collaborators

Co-Op Team Style
A Co-Op team is typically made up of multiple inspectors who share expenses and profits. Equality and independence are the most important things to this style of team.
Generally, everyone does their own scheduling and pricing and works on their own.
This style of team would want all messaging sent from the inspector assigned to the job so they can handle all communication directly.
Since they want their inspectors to have lots of freedom and autonomy, they let them make changes to the Team’s Saved Comments and allow access to sensitive company information.
Top Downer Team Style
When security and control are the most important aspects of your business structure, you may be a Top Downer team.
Control is very important to these Team Owners, and the security of their business comes before the freedom of their inspectors. Inspectors have just enough access to do their jobs.
These teams usually want all messaging sent from the company so the office can control all communication between their inspectors, clients, and agents. They don’t want their inspectors to have direct contact, so they can not ‘steal’ agents.
Since they give their inspectors minimal freedom and autonomy, they don’t want their inspectors to change the Team’s Saved Comments, access the Team’s Contacts and company metrics, or export any Team data.
Collaborator Team Style
Most teams fall somewhere in the middle as Collaborators.
Collaborators generally want their inspectors to have the freedom to do their jobs to the fullest, and they provide a variety of back-office resources to support them.
They want all messaging sent from the company so the inspectors are not bothered while they are working in the field.
Since they want their inspectors to have freedom and autonomy in their role, they let them make changes to the Team’s Saved Comments. To manage that freedom, they don’t want their inspectors to have access to sensitive company information like company metrics or be able to export data.
