Proper Service setup is critical to keeping reports, agreements, and fees organized — especially when adding or removing services from a job.
This guide explains how to structure your Services to prevent unintended report removal.
How Services Control Reports
In Tap Inspect:
Each Service is directly tied to:
Its Report
Its Agreement
Its Fees
When a Service is removed from a scheduled job, the system also removes the report, agreement, and fees associated with that Service.
If inspection data has already been entered into that report, it will be removed along with the Service.
Common Setup That Causes Problems
Some inspectors create a combined (compound) Service such as:
General Home Inspection
General Home Inspection / WDO Inspection & Report
At first glance, this seems convenient. However, this structure creates risk.
If the combined Service is removed from a job:
The entire report structure tied to that Service is removed.
Inspection data entered into that report is also removed.
Adding a new Service later will generate a new blank report.
This can make it appear that inspection data was lost.
Recommended Service Structure (Best Practice)
Instead of combining services, create them as independent Services:
General Home Inspection (primary service)
WDO Inspection & Report (add-on service)
Then, when scheduling a job:
Add the General Home Inspection service.
Add the WDO Inspection & Report service only if needed.
Why This Works Better
With separate Services:
You can add or remove the WDO service at any time.
The General Home Inspection report remains unaffected.
Each report stays tied only to its own Service.
Agreements and fees remain properly organized.
You reduce the risk of accidental data removal.
What to Avoid
Avoid creating compound Services that bundle multiple inspection types into one Service unless:
They are always performed together
They will never need to be removed independently
If there is any chance a service may be added or removed after scheduling, it should be set up as its own standalone Service.
If a Report Was Removed
If you removed a Service and your inspection data disappeared:
The report may still be recoverable from the trash.
Contact Support as soon as possible for assistance.
